Concrete Services in Griffith

Griffith covers a lot of ground, from heritage-listed cottages near Manuka to blocks that have been redeveloped into dual occupancies, townhouses and large new homes. That variety is what keeps our Griffith work interesting: one week it is a narrow, root-cracked driveway beside a 1930s cottage, the next it is shared driveways and slabs for a two-dwelling build. We pour concrete in Griffith for driveways, shared accessways, patios, paths and secondary-dwelling slabs, and we start every quote by checking the clay, the trees and whatever old concrete or fill is already there. Older blocks here often carry a few surprises under the surface, so we would rather find them at the quote than halfway through the job.

  • Shared driveways for dual occupancies — Longer shared accessways with clear falls, kerb detailing and joint layouts that keep two households' cars and bins moving.
  • Cottage driveway replacement — Narrow original driveways broken out and repoured, often with a better base and a finish that suits the older street.
  • Rear patios & alfresco slabs — Outdoor slabs on renovated homes, set to drain away from the house and finished to match internal floor levels where possible.

What's under Griffith

Ground conditions in Griffith

Once the concrete is poured, there's no going back to fix what's under it. That's why we look at the ground here before we price a single square metre.

Reactive clay

Much of Griffith sits on clay that swells in wet winters and shrinks in dry summers. Slabs need reinforcement and joint spacing matched to the site classification.

Old services & mixed fill

Decades of renovations leave old pipes, footings and rubble under older driveways. We locate services through Before You Dig Australia and allow for the unexpected.

Moisture near established trees

Big trees draw moisture out of the clay unevenly, so slabs close to them can move differently from the rest of the pour unless that is designed for.

Griffith concrete questions

Questions we hear a lot from Griffith homeowners before we come out to quote.

Is Griffith the same as Manuka for heritage rules?

Manuka is the shopping and residential area where Griffith and Forrest meet, and parts of Griffith fall inside a heritage precinct. Whether your block is affected depends on its exact location. If you are changing a driveway position, width or front-yard layout, it is worth checking with the ACT planning authority first. We flag anything that may need checking when we quote.

Can you pour the driveway and slabs for a Griffith dual occupancy?

Yes. We regularly pour shared driveways, garage slabs and external paving on two-dwelling builds. We work from the approved plans and engineering, coordinate with your builder and certifier, and leave final finishes until heavy trades are finished. The verge crossing is a separate ACT Government (TCCS) approval, which we explain at the quote stage.

My old Griffith driveway may have asbestos nearby — what happens?

Pre-1990 homes in Canberra commonly have bonded asbestos in sheds, eaves or old fencing, and that has to be handled by a licensed removalist, not a concreter. If we spot suspected material near the work area, we stop and recommend it is tested and removed properly before we break out concrete. It keeps everyone on site safe.
