Concrete Services in Banks
Banks is Canberra's southernmost suburb, at the foot of the Tuggeranong hills and close to the Lanyon valley, developed mainly in the 1990s. That position brings colder winters than the inner city, sloping blocks on the hill side and ground that ranges from reactive clay to shallow rock. Many Banks homes now need their first round of concrete replacement — driveways cracked across the clay, paths that have dropped, carports ready to be upgraded — and plenty of owners want shed and caravan slabs on the bigger blocks. We pour concrete in Banks with a base and reinforcement suited to your ground, joints spaced for clay movement, and winter pours planned around frost. You get a fixed, written quote after we have checked the slope, access and drainage, so there are no surprises when the excavator arrives.
- Driveway replacement — 1990s driveways replaced where the clay has cracked and lifted them, with an improved base and a finish of your choice.
- Shed & caravan slabs — Thickened slabs for sheds, workshops and caravan or trailer storage on larger blocks.
- Patios & alfresco areas — Outdoor entertaining slabs that step down from the house and drain away from it.

Concrete Finishes in Banks
Polished Concrete
We grind and seal your slab to a shine, trialling the gloss level on a small patch first so you can see it.
Coloured Concrete
Colour mixed right through or stained on top, picked from cured samples you can view in daylight at home.
Honed Concrete
A smooth, low-sheen surface that stays grippy underfoot when it is wet or frosty, ideal around pools and alfrescos.
Exposed Aggregate
Stones revealed at the surface give you traction on a sloping block and hide tyre marks and leaf stains well.
Stencilled Concrete
Brick, tile or paver patterns laid into a new pour, or applied over an existing slab that is still solid.
Stamped Concrete
Stone, slate or timber textures stamped into fresh concrete, with the layout planned so edges finish cleanly.
Concrete Expertise in Banks
Driveways
Built on a base suited to your soil, with control joints placed properly and the verge crossing to TCCS standards.
Patios
We walk the heights and drainage falls with you before pouring, since they are locked in once the concrete sets.
Al Frescos
An alfresco floor has to meet your indoor level exactly, so we sort the heights with your builder before booking.
Pathways
Paths graded so summer storm runoff heads away from your walls, not back against the footings.
Pool Surrounds
We settle grip, how hot it gets under bare feet in summer, and the edge detail at the coping before we start.
Foundations
Footings dug and steel fixed to your engineer and soil report, then inspected by the certifier before any concrete goes in.
Other Concrete Services in Banks
Concrete Installation
Driveways, patios, footings and slabs quoted after we have seen your block and ground, not from a price list.
Concrete Repair
Before any fix, we find what made your slab crack, heave or flake, so the damage doesn't come straight back.
Concrete Slabs
House, shed and granny flat slabs built to an engineer design that suits your block’s soil class.
Concrete Resurfacing
A new finish laid over solid old concrete, with most of the effort going into cleaning and prepping it.
Concrete Replacement
We break out the failed concrete, fix the ground beneath it and pour fresh, so the fault is not repeated.
Concrete Removal
Pipes and cables found and access sorted before breaking starts, and the rubble trucked off for recycling.
Excavation and Earthworks in Banks
Digging and Dirty Works
Awkward little digs where finding buried services and fitting a machine in take the most thought.
Excavation
We check depths, heights and buried pipes on site first, so the dig goes to plan from day one.
Earthworks
Ground cut and filled, then compacted layer by layer, with testing done whenever your certifier asks for it.
Trenching
Trenches dug to the right fall, bedded and packed back in layers so they do not sink after a wet winter.
Digger Hire
An excavator plus an experienced operator, with the right size machine chosen after we look at your access.
Demolition
Asbestos checked and services cut off before we pull anything down, with waste sorted so more gets recycled.
Ground conditions in Banks
Once the concrete is poured, there's no going back to fix what's under it. That's why we look at the ground here before we price a single square metre.
Southern-fringe frosts
Banks gets cold, still winter nights near the Lanyon valley. Pours are timed around overnight lows and fresh concrete is blanketed while it cures.
Hill-side slopes and rock
Blocks rising toward the hills slope and can hit rock early, which affects excavation, steps and footing design.
Reactive clay
Lower and flatter blocks are mostly on clay that shrinks and swells, so base, mesh and joint layout are set for it.
Banks concrete questions
Questions we hear a lot from Banks homeowners before we come out to quote.
Why do Banks driveways crack across the middle?
Usually because reactive clay has moved under a slab with too few control joints or a thin base, so it cracked where it wanted to rather than where it was planned. On sloping blocks, water running under the edge makes it worse. A replacement with a better base, proper joint spacing and good edge drainage is the lasting fix, and we explain what caused yours.
How cold is too cold to pour concrete in Banks?
There is no single cut-off, but we avoid pouring when a hard frost is forecast before the concrete has had time to gain strength. In Banks that can mean waiting for a milder spell in mid-winter, starting after the frost has lifted and covering the concrete overnight. It sometimes moves a pour by a day or two, which is better than a damaged surface.
Can you pour a shed slab on a sloping part of my block?
Yes. On a slope we either cut in, build up with compacted fill and an edge beam, or use deeper footings on the low side, depending on the fall and the shed size. Bigger sheds may need building approval and an engineered design. We check the site, the shed plans and access for the concrete truck, then quote a method to suit.
